Over 150 Cornell alumni and friends join for a Big Red reception at Bloomberg with Dean Colleen Barry

On Thursday the 16th of November over 150 alumni from across the UK and Europe came together for a special Big Red evening in London where we heard from Aref Lahham, MEng ’86, chief executive officer & founding partner, Orion Capital Managers and Dean Colleen Barry, who shared details about the vision and mission of Cornell’s Jeb E. Brooks School of Public Policy, and discussed the power of public policy to achieve positive change in a dynamic world, as well as how the school leans into collaboration and the many ways Cornell is poised to do the greatest good. Liv Gussing Burgess ’91, chair of the Cornell Club of the United Kingdom provided closing remarks and an update on our Cornell alumni community engagement in the UK, including announcing our upcoming 15th March 2024 College of Business event.

CCUK alumni leaders also had the chance to visit the London Mithraeum underneath the Bloomberg building – a fabulous chance to explore some of London’s Roman history and a visit we highly recommend to all alumni in or visiting London.

A big thank you to all alumni who attended, as well as to the fabulous Cornell team who flew over from Ithaca for the event, including Fred Van Sickle, Wendy Wolford, Erin Kelly, Anne-Marie Clavelli, Magdalena Kalinka Bartishevich, Rebecca Elliott, and various others.

European alumni leaders also joined together on Friday morning for a meeting to discuss cross-European collaborations and discuss Cornell’s international programming and Hubs with Wendy Wolford, Vice Provost for International Affairs. CCUK was joined by alumni leaders from Germany, Poland, and Austria to discuss ways of building cross-European collaborations and sharing ideas and lessons. Many thanks to the Alumni Affairs team for organising this fantastic inaugural session!
